Practical Assistance

Helping community groups to work more effectively by providing advice, information and facilities.

Existing members should contact the Forum to access their exclusive services, including:

  • How to set up and run a voluntary organisation
  • General advice and information
  • Referral to other agencies
  • Help with production of promotional material
  • Help with fundraising
  • Help with setting up monitoring and evaluation systems
  • Help with developing new projects
  • Help with setting up partnership projects
  • Help with taking a strategic overview of your service
  • Training
  • Providing references

Providing a voice

Representing the diverse views of ethnic minority communities and organisations to agencies such as the local authority and other public bodies. Supporting and promoting the needs of ethnic minority communities and protecting their interests, pressing for changes through negotiation and publicity on behalf of all the organisations represented.

  • Provision of a space, information and training for groups/communities to discuss local ethnic minority community issues.
  • Provision of information on local, national and regional agendas and briefing and support for groups to attend meetings.
  • Provide links with the Local authority, Local strategic partnerships and other key statutory agencies so ethnic minority groups can communicate and contribute to discussions and decision making at a local level.
  • Opportunities to interact with other members to help develop good practice, information sharing and partnership working.
  • Support and help in identifying gaps in services for ethnic minority communities, aiding the development of work with new groups to address unmet needs. Support existing groups to tailor their services to the changing needs of the community.
