24/01/2012

2011 was the Centenary of 'Abdu'l-Bahá bringing the Bahá'í Faith to England after more than 40 years as a prisoner of conscience, and in the autumn there was a lot of activity to commemorate this, including two meetings at Byfleet Village Hall, as 'Abdu'l-Bahá came to Byfleet on two occasions during his short visit.  Woking Bahá'í Assembly commissioned a video to mark the occasion, from one of the Camberley Youth, Shadnaz Rahimi, who is doing Film Studies

One World Week and Interfaith Week were also celebrated...

During the winter break many of the local Bahá'ís attended the 5-day annual conference of the Bahá'í Society for Persian Arts & Letters.  These popular conferences have been running for 20 years but recently an English-speaking section was added by popular demand.  Meanwhile some of the youth attended a facilitators residential course and have launched a project in Guildford to try and engage local pre-teens.

On 15th January there was a Reflection Meeting at Byfleet Village Hall when the local believers will consider ways to reach out to other communities and individuals.

On 24th January the monthly meeting at Godalming Pepperpot will celebrate World Religion Day and Martin Luther King Day...
